Gilbert’s family found a growth on his leg, and after his evaluation we felt that he needed to have surgery. We talked with his family about why we felt the procedure was necessary, and presented them some alternatives. We gave them an honest prognosis, and a recovery timeline. His family got a cost estimate, too.
Then we prepared his family on what to do to prepare Gilbert for his surgical procedure, and how to get their home ready for his recovery.
Pre-Surgery. Like humans, dogs and cats can’t eat after 10 pm the night before surgery. We do recommend free access to water. Surgery drop offs are usually early in the morning, and Gilbert’s was no exception.
In our next post, we’ll talk about the day of surgery, and what you can expect if your pet has a procedure with us.
