Laser Therapy is the latest form of advanced medical care offered at Town N Country. Effective and safe, it’s a non-invasive, non-surgical method to help the body to heal, and to reduce pain and inflammation.
What is Laser Therapy? The concept of laser therapy is very simple. A wand is moved back and forth close to the affected area, and a laser is focused deep into the cells for about a few minutes. The time varies depending on the location, the underlying disease process being treated and the size and color of the animals coat. The animal feels a soothing warmth as the photons from the laser are absorbed. During the therapy humans and pets wear eye protection.
How Does It Work? Bodies are designed to heal themselves with oxygen and nutrients. Injuries and disease keep this from happening. The light energy from the laser changes into heat energy, improving blood flow. More oxygen is released by red blood cells. Improved blood circulation means more nutrients and oxygen are delivered to injured tissues. The laser speeds up the healing process and helps cells to do their job.
Which Animals Benefit? Lots of pets can benefit from laser therapy, including Pets with chronic pain, tendon and ligament injuries, incisions from surgery, and severe injuries. It’s also used with pets with limited options for treatment, like those with liver disease or exotics. Laser therapy is especially helpful as pain management for cats, since there are only a few pain medicines approved for felines.
