new puppyWhen it comes to vaccinating your pet, there are broad guidelines developed the AAHA. But it’s important to know that these are only recommendations. The truth is, a vaccination schedule depends on your dog’s age, environment, and activities. To further muddy the waters, the timing and combination of initial vaccines influence when later ones are administered.
When you bring your puppy to us, we’ll talk with you and set a personalized vaccination program. To help with that conversation, the AAHA has a really fun lifestyle-based vaccine calculator on their website. You enter your pet’s age, and check off several lifestyle/location factors, and a vaccine suggestion is generated.
If you use the calculator, you’ll find that in general, all dogs need rabies and distemper/parvo. Most dogs also need Bordetella.
Your dog may also need immunization against Lymes and Leptospirosis. (Read more about all vaccinations here.)
Again, recommendations vary, because your pet is absolutely unique. And that’s where we come in. Whether your dog is a purebred puppy or an aging rescue, we take all the things that make your dog special, and develop the best solution to keep her healthy and happy for a lifetime.
