doll catesBefore there was Dr. Bolynn, before there was Dr. King, before our building was even built, there was Doll Cates. This Friday, after 32 years and five months of faithful service to Town N Country, Doll is retiring. We’ll just go ahead and tell you…we’re going to miss her!

Doll’s path in the world of veterinary care began many years ago while she was raising Dobermans. Dr. Peterson owned Town N Country back then, and his wife Glenda saw Doll’s talent and passion, and offered her a job working in the kennel. At that time, Town N Country was a small establishment, housed in the little building next door.

Doll started in the kennel. but her skills have seen her all over the hospital. Right now, Doll’s responsibilities span various tasks including some payroll duties and ordering supplies. Her versatility and dedication make her an integral part of the team. Reflecting on the biggest changes over the years, Doll notes the growth, the addition of new veterinarians, and the shift towards more computerized processes. New technology has made tasks like ordering supplies more efficient. “You had to go to the store, but now they deliver it to me!”

Despite the growth, Doll emphasizes that the practice has retained its core values of compassion and care for both clients and their pets. “We’re bigger, but we’re still the most caring I’ve ever met. We’ve stayed with the fact that we’re not just a hospital; we really care for the clients and the pets.”

Doll’s favorite aspect of her job has always been the clients and their pets. She cherishes the connections she has made and will deeply miss the interactions. However, she plans to stay in touch by visiting Town N Country from time to time. At home, she enjoys the company of her 13-year-old Dachshund mix, Peyton, and looks forward to spending more time reading and visiting with her family.

Looking ahead, Doll is excited about strengthening her legs and spending more time with her goddaughter and her goddaughter’s three children. Her first plan is to attend a Christmas parade with them, the beginning of a new chapter filled with family and joy.

Doll’s career at Town N Country has been marked by dedication and a deep appreciation for the opportunity to work in a place she describes as a happy and caring environment. “It’s not just bring the pet in and we send you home. They truly care.”

Doll’s story is a testament to her commitment to veterinary care and to our hospital. She has had a lasting impact on the lives of countless pets, their owners, and all of us at Town N Country who love and will miss her.
