The FDA has issued a strong warning about pig’s ears. Do not purchase them, and if you have any already, they recommend discarding them immediately, and to thoroughly clean the area in which they have been stored.
What’s Wrong? Salmonella. There have been 127 cases in 33 states of human infection tied to exposure to pig ear pet treats with Salmonella, and yes, North Carolina is on the list.
Does My Dog Have Salmonella? Dogs with Salmonella infection may not look sick, but they usually have runny and/or bloody stools. other symptoms include fatigue, vomiting, and fever. If you think your pet may have salmonella, contact us immediately!
What IS Safe? There are often warnings for pet toys and chews, and it’s hard to be sure which ones are safe. We recommend CET and Oravet chews for oral health. We suggest Kongs for play.
